Zanu PF gives new constitution a big thumbs up – and why not!
July 29, 2012 in Uncategorized
Zanu PF Politburo give the new constitution a resounding 97% thumbs up! That is hardly surprising of course; the party had everything it did not want removed and everything it wanted added or the document would have never seen the light of day! party wanted
”Zanu PF wants the charter to place “enough weight” on the country’s struggle against colonialism and imperialism,” Patrick Chinamasa announced at the end of the Politburo meeting. “The party also felt that the liberation struggle was not clearly recognised as the cornerstone of the modern Zimbabwean nation.” One of the few twits the party wanted made to the new constitution.
We all know from whom the idea came from: Chiwenga, Chihuri, Nyikayaramba, Jonathan Moyo etc.; the hawks. The Security Sector top brass have all flatly and publicly said they will not salute someone with “no liberation war credentials” and have stubbornly refused to salute Prime Minister Tsvangirai.
These Security Chefs and other Zanu PF hawks are not content with the fact that the new constitution has done nothing, absolutely nothing, to stop the carry-on of the Police and judiciary turning a blind eye to Zanu PF thuggery and lawlessness that has been going on since 1980. Indeed in the 2008 presidential run-off; the Police, Army and CIO played the leading role in the intimidation, beatings, rapes and murders of the over 500 victims.
In the 2009 Zanu PF Congress resolution Mugabe tried to justify the unsavoury role played by Security Sector in the political violence in 2008 and similar role in future. The resolution argued that these State Organs had “revolutionary origins” and it was incumbent on them to support Zanu PF “as the only revolutionary party”. Or to put it more bluntly, Zanu PF is above the law! Of course no people in their right senses can ever accept that concocted nonsense!
The fight to end white colonial oppression and exploitation was above all a fight for freedom, a meaningful say in the governance of the country, a fair share of the nation’s wealth, human rights and human dignity for ALL Zimbabweans. We fought the whites not just to end white rule but because we were denied freedom, etc. We did not fight to end white oppression only to replace it with an oppressive and corrupt black regime. It is immaterial whether the oppressive black leader(s) have “revolutionary war credentials” or not!
The war of independence was to deliver freedom to all Zimbabweans and ending white colonial rule but a mile stone along that path. We must totally reject Mugabe and Zanu PF’s misinterpretation of the war in which ending white rule was to be the end goal. We must also reject the Zanu PF’s fictitious “struggle against colonialism and imperialism” as nothing but a smoke screen to hide the party’s continued brutality in crashing the nation’s hopes and dreams of freedom and liberty.
There really is nothing in the new constitution to threaten the Zanu PF dictatorship, it is safe and secure; and that is why the Zanu PF Politburo has given it its 97% approval. Everyone in Zanu PF knows the State Security Organs are highly pollicised and there is nothing in the new constitution to stop these Organs putting the party’s interests above those on the nation.
The new constitution stayed well clear of anything that could be interpreted as Security Sector Reforms – all along everyone agreed it is impossible to have free elections without the reforms but now few even acknowledge they are missing in the new constitution – the sacred cow! The Zanu PF hawks are not content the State Security Sector to continue to turn a blind eye to Zanu PF inspired thuggery and lawlessness and it in its new role of leading and carrying out some of the political violence including murders. The hawks also want the new constitution to give the Security Sector’s activities its stamp of approval.
One can say by their deafening silence, MDC tacitly approved the offending Zanu PF resolution back in 2009. The party gave the practical application of this resolution its approval by failing to ensure the new constitution addressed this serious dereliction of one’s duty, a betrayal of the public tryst and a very serious criminal to fail to maintain law and order and/or take part in criminal act. Frankly whether MDC amend the new constitution so that the all too common story of Police Officers doing nothing to stop Zanu PF thugs like Chipangano beating up people are acknowledge in the document as heroes or not is of no consequence. What matters is Chipangano has been beating up people and will continue to do so and Police, for their part, continue to do nothing about it!
What we can do now is vote NO to a new constitution that has done nothing to end the scourge of politically motivated violence in our country. Vote NOT to new constitution that do nothing to deliver freedom, liberty and justice but only seeks to perpetuate and institutionalise the Zanu PF dictatorship!

@ Chimbwido and Super Mondo
Even if Ian Smith killed one million or one person, it was one person too many. But what has that to do with the killings of innocent Zimbabweans after independence? Just because Ian Smith killed one million Mugabe should be allowed to rape and kill as he please, it that it? Nonsense!
Mugabe and his murderous cronies are really desperate; they can not find an excuse for all their corruption and murderers. All they can think of is Ian Smith committed similar crimes; prosecute him first! And whilst we prosecute Ian Smith and his cronies – and no doubt Mugabe and his cronies would want everyone of Smith’s man brought to book before they are touched – Mugabe and his cronies can continue looting, raping and killing.
Chimbwido you and Mugabe clearly know all the gruesome details of the crimes Ian Smith committed; why did you not prosecute him back in 1980? Indeed, do it now; it is never too late for justice to be done. Whatever reason(s) Mugabe had for not prosecuting Ian Smith and making sure that justice was done there were clearly a big mistake because it clearly set a bad precedence one Mugabe is now following. The most important thing now for Zimbabwe is to break this bad precedence, break the witch’s looking glass and end the evil spell. And I can not think of anyone better to prosecute first than someone with fresh blood on the hands!
I told you before Chimbwido you and your fellow murderous thugs can always argue that it is a white colonialist plot to frame you for taking over the white owned farms, etc. – we have heard all that before. The overwhelming majority of the over 20 000 murdered were poor Zimbabweans who had never even worked on a white owned farm and were themselves victims of white oppression the same as every other black person. The argument will fall away when it becomes clear they were all murdered because they had demanded to have a meaningful say in the governance of the country.
It is bad enough that anyone should ever be denied their basic and fundamental rights and freedoms; it is an outrage that even one person should be murdered because they demanded their basic rights; and to murder over 20 000 is the blood thirst madness that must never ever be ignored!
Zimbabwe has too many murderous thugs who firmly believe they can terrorise, rape and murder and get away with it. We need to send a clear and unambiguous message that those who commit these heinous crimes are not above the law, they will be punished. We should have never allowed those responsible for serious crimes to go unpunished back in 1980, it was precedence; still the more reason we must act now and drag the evil-doers to see themselves for who they are in witch’s mirror and break it!

Zanu PF says it is going to submit its list of amendments to the current new constitution tomorrow Wednesday 1st August 2012.
There are three possible reasons why Zanu PF wanted the new constitution (nc) amended:
a) party has absolute power already but still are back for more; it is in the nature of the beast.
b) each party faction want the nc amended to suit them.
c) Zanu PF is pre-emptying the public’s democratic amendments by making outrageous amendments of it own.
It is naïve to expect that Zanu PF, of all parties, can ever want a democratic constitution!
