Food and love

A beeline
I sent out a thought,
a honeybee
that flew in widening circles
until it found
a hoard
of fat yellow pollen kernels.
It went down the purple
striated throat of the flower
to find a viscous pool
of sugar-satiated nectar.
It saw its own face
looking at it through the aromatic murk.
The face said:
plants are organisms that mainly use
their sexual output
to feed other organisms.
The bee answered:
of course it gets sexual fulfillment in return.
Yes, the face returned, disturbed for a moment
by a ripple,
even human beings
cannot fully separate
sex and food.
