The gears of industry

19/04/2012 in Uncategorized

Changing tack a bit, as matters of the heart seem to have healed, and the movement is generally …forward. I havent posted much in the last few weeks, I have been too busy…

Which brings me to my point, the gears of industry are turning too fast, in an engine (South Africa), which hasnt been designed to handle high revolution high performance output…. hell the engine hasnt been serviced in the last 18 years.

I have been working 14-18 Hour days, 6 days a week for the past 12 weeks, and I am in a managemet position, highly technical yes, but the nature of my job forces me to be IN the job, not ON the job as I need to be…. its all about throughput, production, volume, more faster….unfortunately not better…. a big issue for someone like me with very high standards in my work.

But it goes larger than this, throughout the past few years the screws just seem to tighten and tighten and tighten…. we work harder, more efficiently, faster and longer. The revs build higher and higher and our engines just scream louder and louder. No mercy, no quarter…machines don’t feel pain…

That while 40-60% of my salary goes to tax, no holidays, no weekends…just work, stress, deadlines, politics, fights, contracts….war.

It’s not just me… I see it in every face as I walk into te office at 05:50 (Yes thats A.M.)… a grey pallor, sulken look, sunken eyes… gruff greetings with even less patience of my fellow co-workers…

For me to be able to do this, I have to pay 3k a month for medical aid, to fix things and replace parts when the system, heaven forbids…. gives in…. no sick days..

You see we work in a system that hasn’t been serviced recently…. thick tarlike oil clinging to all the moving parts are slowing us down, wasting effort, resources…

The engine will eventually seize…. just a matter of time.

back to my deadline…dont talk to me about lunch…. in the words of the great Gordon Gecko…. lunch is for pussies.

I hear you! My boss has told me that although he pays me (eg) R20K a month he EXPECTS R50k service from me. And he gets it… From every employee #fatfuckingcats

Ps: Good to see you here xXx

Oh yup. I know that feeling.
Working direct with 3500+ clients constantly in my field, there is no rest for the wicked. They work weekends and nights thus I have to as well.
And I burned out this week. But where am I to be found? At my desk, in front of my laptop, pandering to clients needs and wants!
But I guess some of us are just here to make the world go roud :)
P.S. What is this thing you call ‘lunch’??

  4. then we all wonder why our society is so screwed……….but if you choose to believe in this modern religion that is called “progress” then you will get what you deserve………your kids will grow into delinquents whilst your busy worshiping industria……….so go ahead sacrifice your self on the alter of the illusion….your choice…………

  5. make the world go round?…..its been going round for billions of years without this modern illusione….and will go round for millions more after this modern illusion………..

Actually God abhors lazy people, soo justify it all you want… the point of the article, that you mistook, is that we all work too hard just to make the boittom line, it has never been about prosperity, merely survival…. so please take the preachings and judgements somewhere else, your comments aren’t wanted, warranted, thought through, or relevant to the topic… and people claiming to have an inside track to what God is thinking should rather abstain from voicing it, because no man does… and neither do you. Who the hell are you to judge?
