Get training people!. The Lake eland mile open water swim is held in a beautiful setting of the Lake eland game reserve, 30km inland from port sheptstone. This is a re-branded event from the Speck Pumps – 1000 Open water swim of the last 5 years, due to demand for a mile, to test the waters or train for the Midmar. Take advantage of the event for info visit www.margateswimmingclub.co.za. Entry forms can be obtained online, the event is hosted by Margate Swimming club affiliated to both KZN aquatics and Swim SA. 2013 has arrived and saw a high demand for Lake Eland Mile to commence early in 2013, exciting changes have taken place and many more surprises will be coming up in the next 4 months.

Lake Eland Mile 2013 has opened entries in February 2013 and technical problems with the site have now been eliminated. From 2013 Swimmers my enter online and submit their entry online, or print manual forms for entry to submit by fax and email. After online submission the website also offers links to the main banks for EFT payments to be made, a much simpler and easier method to enter for 2013. Also visit our map section and accommodation section on the site for info on distances and places to stay. 2013 will see exciting competitions including a pre-entry prize draw of a holiday for all those who enter before 30 September 2013! The designing of this page on the website for the provider of the pre-entry prize is currently undertaken professionally and will be up and running in the next 3 months. Sponsors and Partners will be finalized during June of 2013 and these updated logos etc will be loaded on marketing material from July 2013 onwards. Entry fees have been structured to fit most swimmers pockets and ranges from Level 1 – being the cheapest to Level 5 – being the most expensive, depending on the date of the entry. To encourage swimmers to swim more than one race, special discount structures were introduced for entering two events (10%) and entering 3 events (15%). Lastly to encourage older folk to join in the health benefits of open water swimming, pensioners will now receive 20% discount on all entry fees. A lovely high quality black towel will be available for sale with entries again this year

Start Training people! For those who have not had the guts to swim the Midmar Mile this year, due to not being fully trained and  avoidance of possible embarrassment in front of thousands, there is another chance later in the year for you! The Lake Eland Mile is on a smaller scale in a beautiful setting for family and friends to join swimmers for a day out, swimmers who are in training can test their skill at swimming a mile and test their readiness to swim Midmar Mile 2014 at the Lake Eland Mile on 3 November 2013, Or come and train for Midmar 2014, it is only 3 months before Midmar. For info on the event, or entry opening dates as well as forms either printed for manual submission or can be submitted online. Towels will be available with pre – entries at very reduced rates and with certain late entry period towels can still be ordered extra at various rates depending on the date entered. A price draw for pre-entries is in the final stages of negotiation and so is special rates for entering the Lake Eland Reserve along with possible packages for camping for those who wish to stay over for the weekend. Detailed info on the event and costs will be on the website over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out. Towels will be featured on the site in the following 6 weeks.

The Lake Eland Mile 2013 launch in February 2013, amidst the rush for Midmar Mile entries preparing for race day!

 

The Lake Eland Mile 2013 is launched the same time as the Midmar Mile event takes place in February, the Lake Eland Mile will take place on 3 November 2013 in the Lake Eland Game Reserve 35km inland from the coastal town ofPort Shepstonein KZN. It is launched in February meaning that people may enter online from just after the Midmar Mile event , from 15 February 2013,up to race day the 3rd of November 2013. This event will be an excellent training ground for the 2014 Midmar Mile as it is hosted 3 months prior to Midmar. The Lake Eland Mile has been held for 6 years and 2012 saw major attractions like the 2 x olympic swimmers Charl Crous and Troyden Prinsloo entering most races and competing against each other. The setting of the Lake Eland Reserve Dam is truly special as you swim in a game reserve with many wild animals on the property. You may enter online on www.margateswimmingclub.co.za, click on lake eland link. The 6 x Events for 2013 include a 3000m SA qualifying swim, 500m disabled / under 13 event and 500m over 14 event and 500m team event, the main attractions events of a mile is divided into 2 events – 1 Mile (1600) 13 and under and 1 Mile(1600) 14 and over. All swimmers will receive finishing medals. Over R25000 in prizes will be handed out to winners of all age categories – over 30 different category winners will receive both cash and either a gold, silver and bronze medal prizes. Many spot prizes will be handed out during the day and food stalls and sponsor stalls will be on display. It is a beautifull setting for ” a day of fun in the sun for the whole family” braai fascilities on an island around which swimmers swim, is a huge attraction for visitors wanting to be close to the action. Make a week end of it and stay or camp at Lake Eland Reserve or other accomodation is offered in Oribi Gorge area during the event, accomodation can also be booked 35km away at the coastal towns of Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach, Uvongo orMargate, the gems of theSouthCoast, on the beach! Towels will be for sale this year, special entry fees are being negotiated in 2013 for the reserve, as well as pre-entry close off prizes, and packages for swimmers who wish to camp at the reserve. SECOND 2012 OLYMPIAN – ENTER TO SWIM THE LAKE ELAND MILE 2012

Much excitement followed the entry of SA Olympic contender, Charl Crous, when he entered the Speck Pumps Lake Eland Mile event last week, once again a major highlight for the Lake Eland Mile this week is the entry by 2012 Olympian for open water swimming, Troyden Prinsloo, entering the Lake Eland Mile for 4 November 2012’ s races. He has had many great achievements during his Open Water Swimming Career which includes:

 -          Double Olympian, attending the recent London Olympics finishing 12th overall in the 10km Open Water Swim

-          15 x South African Champion

-          2 x Midmar Mile Winner

-          Commonwealth Medalist

-          3 x All Africa Games Champion

-          NCAA Champion

-          Winner Of Bell Bouy open water swim 2012

-          Redhouse Mile Winner 2012

 

Troyden will be swimming the 3000m, the 500m and the Mile events on Sunday the 4th of November at the dam in Lake Eland Game Reserve on the KZN South C

Lake Eland Mile ,Late Entry Special of R250 with towel for individual entries till 31 October and a free towel toward a team entry of 5 swimmers at R80 per swimmer  is now running till 31 October. Late Entries is open at R80 per swimmer in a team from 3 -4 without towels or R200 per  individual event entries without towels, till the day of the event, you may even enter on the day at the Lake Eland dam. visit www.margateswimmingclub.co.za to view the towel and the special entry forms for late entries. Medals for all swimmers who complete their races and Gold Silver and Bronze medals with prizemoney for category winners, this is listed on the entry form for reference.

  Another Graham Hill wonder boy, contender for SA in the

 2012 Olympic Games, Charl Crous will be swimming in

 The Speck Pumps- Lake Eland Mile on 4 November ’12 which

 Is held at Lake Eland Game Reserve on the KZN south

 Coast. Charl will be swimming the 3000m, 500m and mile

 Events. Charl was part of the SA swimming team to London

 Olympics in 2012 and is ranked 7th in Mens 4x100m Medley

 Relay and 8th in the Mens 100m backstroke. For info on the
