The children at the Phoenix Child Welfare association were alight with excitement as Hirsch’s Umhlanga delivered food parcels at the centre recently.
Phoenix Child and Family Welfare Society has been in existence for over 30 years, with the focus on individual counseling and support. Community upliftment projects also form part of the activities at the centre, with teams engaging with the community through outreach programs such as skills development. Established in 1994, the Sahara Shelter is a 24Hour facility that is place of safety for abused women and children . Other programmes include HIV awareness, foster care and adoption.
The food parcels formed part of a fundraiser by Hirsch’s Umhlanga, whereby the company sponsored a loaf of bread for every toaster sold. The shoppers and staff at Hirsch’s were also encouraged to sponsor other food items, such as tinned food and dry goods.
Over 100 food parcels were collected and donated to this worthy cause.
