Poor SARIE...

Most of you must know about the scandal with Media24 where (I think) 7 of their Women Magazine titles lied about their ABC figures, and also a few magazines from Touchline...well, it’s been a few months now and the ‘worst’ is probably over, but the after effect is kicking in now.

The Company decided to close down InStyle magazine (never read it, but apparently it is/was very good) as well as the magazine MAX POWER (which I think is a pitty ‘cause my brother also likes to Pimp His Ride). Now, just so you know, InStyle was one of the magazines that lied, but not MAX POWER, but they were closed because they didn’t fit into the market anymore... (Read the full "THE TIMES" article about the above by clicking here)

One of the other magazines that played around with it’s figure (not much, though) was SARIE (my moms favourite magazine). When I went to the shops today, I saw the new cover for the first time (see above) and I also read the heading reading, “Exclusive: Comedian Marc Lottering opens up...” (Read part of the Afrikaans article by clicking on the link) Now I already suspected what the article was about, but I still wanted to read it; Marc came out of the closet to SARIE magazine and tells everyone about his relations with his boyfriend of 10 years – really riveting stuff – read it here, and buy the mag!

But paging through the magazine, I noticed that there were VERY few ads, and that the mag was much thinner than always... So I grabbed a previous copy of SARIE (before the scandal) from my magazine shelve to compare it with a copy after the scandal... Here is what I found:

BEFORE, July 2007 Edition         AFTER, January 2008 Edition
Nr. pages:           224                                             176
Nr. of pages with ads:   105                                     47
(The above ads are only FULL PAGE ads; I didn’t count the smaller ones)

I though these stats were very interesting, and I think that many of the other magazines who were part of this, have the same effect – I just feel sorry for the poor Editors and Sales Reps who’s suffering...

PLAY vs ZOOPY...

I’ve asked dozens off people already if they knew about our very own YouTube in South Africa, Zoopy.com, but almost all off them answered ‘NO’, and I’m sure that many off you will answer the same.

It’s been around for almost a year now and I really think that these guys are doing a GREAT job! They go out to festival, crime scenes, news that matter, and they turn it into a nice piece of visual information for me and you...but the sad realisation is that not people know about this site, so not many people visit the site... (if you are planning on going to the site, check out Helen Zille’s own page with her own video’s and stuff!)

And then last week 24.com (one of the giant Media24’s babies) launched a great new section called “PLAY” (Haven’t been there yet? MOVE YOUR ASS OVER THERE!) and it all ready looks like it’s going to be a winner...and it’s sorry to say, but they are going to kick Zoopy’s cute ass.

Just quick stats to prove my point:

Zoopy (started about a year ago):
Most popular video upload: Bryan Habana get tackled for Cup
Number of Views: 6663

PLAY (started about a week ago):
Most popular video upload: Idols vs The Villan
Number of Views: 796

I’m sure that this section is going to be just as successful as 24.com’s Blogs, NetAds and all the other sites, but it’s a pity to see such a hard working site as Zoopy not reaching the success it deserves...

This is Mind Boggling to me...

If you are over 18 and have a licence (not the one on your stomach, but your Drivers Licence) then I’m sure that it has happened to you that some idiot drives behind you at night with his freakin’ BRIGHTS ON!

It irritates me more than a Mary J Blige or Alicia Keys song when this happens!

So what do you do? You switch your Rear View Mirror to upwards to your ceiling. And this is the part the fascinates me: Even though my mirror is looking at my roof, I can still see the guy behind me, but without his lights blinding me...Mind boggling!

Had this ever ‘bothered’ anyone else, or made you think “how does it work”?

"Thanks for leaving me a sock..."

My boyfriend and I moved in together for the first time in May this year after dating for almost 14 months – we moved to Woodstock. We really found a stunning and huge flat for a bargain of a price (to see a bit of the flat, click here to my 12 of 12 post I did in May...btw, is anyone still doing the 12 of 12?).

The neighbourhood is really not that bad! We live on top of a second hand furniture shop and a Salvation Army, and we have a friendly Barber across from us with the name Joe...Joe’s Barber. Everyone is really friendly and looks out for each other. (To see my blog entry about the day we moved into the flat, and what happened...click here)

Unfortunately we have to park in the street ‘cause the small block of flats don’t have security parking, and now we don’t have security guards because the ones we had robbed us because they had keys to our flats (but that’s a WHOLE different story!)

Anyway, we’ve never had any problems with our cars, really, none, and we’ve been living here for 6 months already, until about 3 weeks back. We have a surveillance camera in our road, so I think that’s why we’ve never really had problems, but this specific Thursday the government, or who ever, took down the Surveillance Camera for repairs and no one told us. So the Friday morning when we got to our cars, both of our cars were broken into! Bastards!

They broke the small back windows, got some small kid to climb into the car and steal ‘things’ from our boots.

These things were: Branding from work out of my boot, and 3 weeks of washing out of my boyfriends boot! We forgot to take it in the previous day, so we thought it would be fine ‘cause it’s in our BOOTS so know one can see it!

So the bastards stole 3 weeks of washing from the both of us, equalling to almost R16 000. There are two things that make me mad – the fact that my privacy was fucked with (they now have our underwear and clothes with A LOT of meaning) and the fact that we don’t really have clothes left (especially underwear...he he. And now it looks like the Insurance isn’t going to pay us out – Bastards!)

The only things the bastards left for us were one of my boxers, one handkerchief (sakdoek) and one black sock...and a whole new wardrobe to be filled!

Fucking bastards!

Nationwide gets fucked...

First of all - I'm back biatches! And I'm really looking forward to my time back here on the best site for blogs in South Africa!

In today's Die Burger Newspaper there was this stunning photo (taken by Garth Stead) that really tells ALL about what's happening at the moment with Nationwide - Nationwide is really fucked (and if you don't get the picture, let me spell it out: It looks like the Mango plane is humping the Nationwide plane)

I think that you will agree with me in saying that this was perfect timing!

Have you ever cut your hair off?

I’m at a point in my life where I am sick and tired of my hair (I know, I know, I’m only 21…How can I complain already?)! I don’t complain only because of the fact that I’ve been balding at the front of my head for the past 3 years, but also the fact that my hair can’t be longer then 5cm…then it starts curling again.

I’m sorry, but I hate curls (it looks good on other people, but not me)! I want to have straight and soft hair like Leonardo DiCaprio. I want to be able to style it like I want to and not look like a geek from ‘n small town while doing it.

I’ve tried Relaxers (R400 a month), but it started to be too expensive and it made my hair even thicker (after 2 weeks of application), and it made my hair very weak. So I stopped.

I’m just sick of my hair now, and I want to try something that I have never done, and something I was always to afraid of – I want to cut my hair off!

I’ve been struggling with this thought for the past 2 weeks…and I decided that I’m going to do it!

But I’m still very afraid of how I’m going to look, and if it’s going to fit my face and shape…and, and, and…but I’m just going to do it and hope for the best!
